Hello, I checked the link to the Max X. Miller Online website that you deleted on the Don Imus wikipedia page and it seems that the website and all of it's files are up and running again so I readded the link again. Liberal Arts, Inc.

OK, I wrote up some stuff based on Charles A. Nelson's Radical Visions. Basically, there are four explanations presented now.

--The official view: an oddly phrased statement about the endowment being insufficient for a building fund.

--Samuel Sass's view: that wasn't the real reason, but he doesn't know (or won't tell) the real reason.

--The Springfield Republican's view: Mellon was annoyed by the political activities of "an associate" of Barr's.

--Charles A. Nelson's view: Mellon gave 'em an inch and they tried to take a mile. More specifically, his intention was to endow a fund for the continuing operations of the St. John's program, or a similar program elsewhere if it appeared that St. John's would never be safe from the Navy, and Barr and Buchanan thought that he would agree, or had agreed, to fund a much more ambitious effort to build a new campus. Commander Cuckoo Bananas

The name "Commander Cuckoo Bananas" is not directly referring to President Bush. Wikipedia States: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piped_link)

Do not use piped links to create "easter egg links", that require the reader to follow them before understanding what's going on. For example, do not write this:

   [...] and by mid-century the puns and sexual humor were (with only a few exceptions) back in to stay.

The readers will not know Thomas Bowdler is being spoken of until they select the link — in a print version, there is no link to select, and the information is lost. Instead, reference the article explicitly:

   [...] and by mid-century the puns and sexual humor were (with only a few exceptions, see Thomas Bowdler) back in to stay.

Derrida bibliography

Zenohockey, I noticed you put an {{expert}} tag at Jacques Derrida bibliography. I'm not really an expert in that field, but I do have a PhD in a tangentially related one--what exactly did you have in mind? The page is ugly and possibly unnecessary, but it seems pretty accurate. It's accurate, but thoroughly underinclusive, especially with regard to his later works. And no up-to-date online bibliography exists. I plan to add more books when I get the chance, but it'd be nice to have others familiar with his corpus paying attention to the page. --zenohockey 05:53, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah. Yes, a complete list would take quite some time, and involve some subjective decisions: interviews, collections of essays put together by someone else (which seem to have been included). Spelling

On your User page you write: "this will keep me from acheiving true happiness, " but you mean "this will keep me from achieving true happiness, ". I would correct it but I am getting reproved for altering other people's stuff. Is there any type of main image you can get for this page to make this look similar to the other pages of the Olympic Games?

Unused References

Should we really delete unused references? It seems like it would be beneficial to leave them in the article. Is there any corresponding WP policy for this? --Hetar 04:41, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P. S. In case it wasn't clear, you were right to propose this for deletion. When I first started editing Wikipedia, "substub" was considered a valid reason for deletion by many. When you read the article Wikipedia:The perfect stub article it seems clear that a stub is supposed to imply responsibility for eventually expanding it yourself, and within "a few weeks." You're quite welcome. Assuming you're talking about removing the highlighting, just search the URL for snippet that contains your search terms, and delete it, including the ampersand that preceded it. This works for Google, Amazon, etc.

As fun as it might be to analyze WP:STUB like the Talmud, it's not necessary. It's just simple reasoning: This super-short article needs revisions ASAP. Therefore, I can either: fix it myself, complain about it at the Village Pump, or list it at AFD. I'm not doing the first one until I feel like it (I'm such a loyal contributor), so that leaves VP and AFD. AFD wins because if it still looks like Babelfish vomit after a week, it's obvious no one cares about it, and so "consensus" is automatically attained, if only by apathy (What happened if an article were nominated for deletion and no one fixed it?). --zenohockey 22:05, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone calling themself BreakBackMountain has added what looks like a spurious "influenced" by the name of Juliana Eimer. Pretty minor but could find no mention of her name nor any books published by her. BreakBack does not respond. I deleted it and then Breakback put it back. Strange. My Sig

I have my preferences set to use this signature so that no matter how complicated I make my sig in the future, it will only ever take up 19 spaces. I've seen some nice signatures, but the code for them is so long it takes up a lot of space in the edit box and some users get annoyed. This way, I can have a complicated signature without taking up all that space. If templates do tax the servers too much, I'd be willing to change it back, but I was unaware it could be that much of a problem. timrem 01:43, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Electroconvulsive therapy

Hello. I saw your editions of the ECT article and I left a note on the talk page. The note, paraphrased, says this: YOu recently replaced the quotation from ECT patient Barbara C. Cody with a quotation from ECT patient Kitty Dukakis. There is nothing wrong with adding the Dukakis quotation. However, completely deleting Cody's mention, just because she isn't as famous or because you or other people disapprove of her comments is unethical in the context of Wikipedia.

I strongly believe you violated Wikipedia policy by doing that. Please reply.

Again, thank you for your comments. I may continue the discussion on the ECT talk page and our talk pages, but I am retiring as an editor. The incident on that article has indeed been upsetting to me. I admit, I have a very partisan opinion on that topic, mainly because I've actually seen it and its subjects in a hospital setting. I suppose that if it hadn't been the ECT discussion, it would have been another that would have inspired me to leave. Wikipedia has become more of an addiction and displeasure for me than I like. Although amusing, I'm not happy either about the Stephen Colbert movements of truthiness and wikiality. I'm going to continue my work in an independent medium, such as my Webzine. You can write me again on the discussion pages, but I won't be using my account soon after that.

Part of interwikitmp-grp

Hi! re: Tfd: W2c... This is part of the nascent Wikipedia:WikiProject template sharing, and another two we've never quite dignified with a name or formal write up yet. This is quite useful for refering to commons locations in documentation or templates that need work on all sisters, no matter which sister such is copied too. Such work is too time intensive as it is.
Unlike most sister projects the commons does NOT have an abbreviation which works on itself like [[W:whatever ]]. Ral315 discovered 'W2' is much the same nightmare, and for similar reasons, this one best not be messed with... not to mention all the templates it will break. No reason to create work. Okay... but Ral315 has voted to delete W2c. In any event, the reason I nominated it was that the only textual content was "To be deleted." This, combined with the cryptic name, suggested that the whole thing was an abandoned newbie experiment. I now know this isn't the case, but the discussion that's happening is at least getting your nascent project some popularity; it spurred you to put some documentation and removed the confusing "To be deleted" bit; and the TfD discussion may well generate new ideas.
