Pap Smear
[edit]His name really sounds like Pap Smear. I would go as "Patrick."
- I think that's the point. It's in the great Punk Rock Naming tradition - Dinah Cancer or Lee Ving to name a few others. --76.232.127.61 (talk) 15:39, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
Pat smear played Lake of Fire with Kurdt. Lake of fire is one of the best Nirvana songs.
- Lake of Fire is a Meat Puppets song.67.169.58.50
Irrellevency is key.
"According to the documentary film Foo Fighters: Back and Forth, Smear is married with children." - Does he now like to be called "Pappy Smear?" FiggazWithAttitude (talk) 16:54, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
Blade Runner
[edit]I'm curious, was he an extra or something? - RoyBoy 800 22:57, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
While the article states: He also appeared in TV shows such as CHiPs and movies including Blade Runner and Breakin'., IMDB doesn't corroborate any of that. As such, I am removing the sentence. IrishGuy talk 19:01, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Relationship with Dave Grohl
[edit]Pat is supposedly going to be joining the foo fighters on their upcoming acoustic tour (summer 2006). I would add this in to the main page...but it hasn't happened yet. -MarlonG
Member of Nirvana?
[edit]In the first paragraph is this sentence: "been a regular member of several well-known bands... The Germs, Nirvana and Foo Fighters." I knew he was in their live touring lineup, but was he actually considered a full-fledged official member of that band?
Yes, actually. Before Unplugged, Cobain tells the audience "This is our new member, Pat". I suppose if they were to have recorded another studio album, Smear would've probably been invovled with it. -Scooter.
Smear was supposed to put his guitar work into "You Know You're Right" but because of Cobain's death, that never materialized. --Raderick 13:44, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- I remember reading in a interview that they were planning on recording another studio album, with Pat Smear on it. Obviously, this never happened. Gringo300 (talk) 18:36, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- It's a little unclear what his exact status was— but he was introduced as a member of the band on MTV by Kurt Cobain and he was often photographed with the other three men in the band. Maybe we will know more about this issue sometimes after 2016, when the band is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Timothy Horrigan (talk) 17:58, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Can't we find a better one? He's snearing in the one we have. --kingboyk 16:34, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well somebody removed it anyway, I wonder why Speedboy Salesman 14:00, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Put one up that I took and own the rights to, so there shouldn't be any problems. Andrewbootlegger 2228, 22 January 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.194.130.138 (talk) 04:28, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Gay?
[edit]Is pat a homosexual? I'm not being sarcastic or mocking him in any way -- I am just wondering if he has ever said anything publicly about his sexuality, whether he is bi or just gay. Anyone got some info on this?
one must not forget kurdt's epic description of Pat on the unplugged special..."he's a honorary punk rocker...but he likes queen more"173.54.200.196 (talk) 01:30, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
As far as I know, Pat's never discussed his sexuality, and he's shown kissing a woman (presumably his girlfriend) in footage shot before Nirvana's concert for MTV's Live & Loud special. As for Kurt's Queen comment, Kurt and Dave Grohl were also both big Queen fans (and Dave later performed with the surviving members of Queen at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony) so that means nothing. --Celtic Jobber (talk) 21:48, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
he's married to a woman who he has kids with. i dunno how to reference stuff but its in the new foo fighters doc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.105.185.139 (talk) 22:31, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
- For like twenty years I've been going under the assumption that he was gay. I was certain he had confirmed it, but I couldn't begin to tell you where or why I thought that. I'll be damned. MrBook (talk) 15:56, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
I didn't know how to answer the question so im just editing. It seems like Pat smear is gay but he has a wife. In band pictures when they pose I have seen Pat doing some gay things to other guys. He is a really big Freddie Mercury fan and Freddie Mercury is gay for sure. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.0.146.50 (talk) 19:57, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
first solo album
[edit]Anyone know where I can find a track list of Pat Smear's first solo album? Gringo300 (talk) 18:37, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
-I found the following on ebay: SAHARA HOTEL; GOLDEN BOYS; ODENORA!; BLUE FUNK PUNK; PRINCESS; MAGICANDLE TRAGICANARY; THE AREA OF THE CIRCLE; XMAS SONG; EYES AND HEARTS; A GENTLE AXE; --76.232.127.61 (talk) 15:34, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
Fatigue?
[edit]There is an unsourced explanation that Smear left Foo Fighters because of "fatigue." Fatigue per se is a somewhat dubious explanation given that he was only 37 years old at the time and that the band's schedule was not unusually arduous. Sometimes "fatigue" is a euphemism for substance abuse or for generally erratic behavior. (This euphemism was used more than once by Nirvana's spokespeople when Cobain missed shows.) Or, perhaps Smear has a major health issue such as chronic fatigue syndrome. Since there is no source, and since in his own interviews he doesn't give any specific reason for leaving Foo Fighters, I think the "fatigue" explanation needs to be deleted. Timothy Horrigan (talk) 17:58, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
Kids?
[edit]On the April 11, 2011 episode of The Daily Show, on which the Foo Fighters appeared, Dave Grohl mentioned everyone in the band having kids. I've never previously heard anything of Pat having children - anyone able to verify one way or the other? --76.232.127.61 (talk) 15:35, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
Nirvana Reunion
[edit]This section of the wiki is completely wrong. That Dec 21, 2010 show was not the first time the surviving members of Nirvana played live together. That honor goes to August 29, 1997 - Memorial Stadium, Seattle Center (Bumbershoot Festival), Seattle, WA. (1)
The Foo Fighters were playing and when the set was over, Krist came up to play bass, Dave went on drums and Pat stayed on guitar. They played a cover of Prince's Purple Rain and Led Zeppelin's Communication Breakdown. (2)
However, you could say that Dec 21, 2010 show was the first time a live Nirvana reunion had a Nirvana song in the set (Marigold). (3)
You could also add that the night before the 2010 reunion concert, Dec 20, 2010, was the first time the surviving members of the band played together in the studio. They did Smells Like Teen Spirit with no one on vocals. (4)

Hiatus from the Foo Fighters (1997–2005)
[edit]The last line of this section states that the previously unrecorded version of the song which was recorded in 1988 was almost on a movie in 2007. I'm assuming that what is supposed to be said is that the Germs never recorded the song and it instead appeared on Smear's album in 1988 and was then almost licensed to Cthulhu but wasn't, but as it reads now the song has never been recorded yet is mysteriously appearing in album format in 1988.L.cash.m (talk) 22:17, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
"Classical training"?
[edit]Under the "Career" heading, it states "45 Grave (1981) / Was briefly in deathrock band 45 Grave, the band that contains Don Bolles (Germs drummer) as part of classical training." "Classical training"? What's that supposed to mean? It would help if there was a citation to a source. Without it, it looks to me like nonsense, and I think it should be removed. Recent edit regarding Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters
[edit]I believe I said that it was “inaccurate” that “Dave Grohl went on to become the frontman of Foo Fighters”. My edit was semantic, and I will make one semantic correction to my own comment: it was not “inaccurate”, because the statement that he became the frontman of Foo Fighters is completely true. What I meant to say was that it imprecise, or vague, when the precise truth could be summarized in fewer words. Thank you all. 2600:8801:DF10:E800:95D1:4674:D660:38AB (talk) 05:26, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
