Hey, isn't the "Keukenhof" missing, a festival in the Netherlands? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.238.145.225 (talk) 20:32, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Ottawa has World's Largest Tulip Festival?
[edit]So how exactly is a title like that decided and who exactly decides? The festival in Ottawa, Canada has only(!) one million tulips on display while Holland, Michigan displays up to SIX million. Of course, Ottawa gets more visitors since it is a much larger urban area than Holland, MI with more hotels and infrastructure. But then again, Ottawa's festival just filed for bankruptcy protection while Holland's offers many more individual events. I suggest removing Ottawa's claim to "The World's Largest Tulip Festival".
Todo suggestions:
- place in context of floral festivals in general - create categories
- add reference to Bataille de fleurs in Nice (first modern floral festival), or put in new umbrella flower festival article
- expand Ottawa section (original 100,000 bulb gift from Juliana, twinning with other festivals, technical details etc)
- add Tonami Tulip Fair (Japan)
- add Skagit Valley Tulip Festival (USA)

Merging: Ok, so I'm moved all the Holland, Michigan stuff from Tulip Time Festival and Tulip Festival about Holland, Michigan to its page and made the appropriate links. Now, Tulip Time Festival needs to redirect to Tulip Festival, but I don't know how to do that. Gflores 05:13, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
I think that Tulip Time should stay where it is because Tulip Time is it's own festival, completely unrelated to Tulip Festival. Maybe we should make a catergory of Tulip Festival's and include each seperate cities festival with all their little add ons to it. -- L337dexter 15:03, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Tulip Time is a proper noun. Tulip Festival is generic. Thus they should stay seperate but cross link to each other. --dwp4942303:20, 24 Dec 2006 (UTC)
Is the Albany, New York Tulip Festival big enough to warrant a mention, or even an article?--Scallop 18:45, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
It has always been my understanding that Tulip Time is not a tulip festival per se, but a Dutch heritage town festival. That being said, however, the tulips are the central attraction-the city even bills itself as "home of the tulip festival", so I don't really know where it fits. Triphook 00:31, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Tulips aren't neccessarily the main attraction at Tulip Time. Considering the length of the festival, the three parades involved, the many tourist attractions (ie klompen dancers, wooden shoe making, windmills, candle making, and tulip farms), the vendors, the carnival, the celebrities, and the half a million tourists involved, it is much more than just a "Tulip Festival" and deserves its own page.
Something to consider is that Tulip Time is also the name of the festival in Belle Plaine. It needs to be made aware that there is a difference between Tulip Time (Holland, Michigan) and Tulip Time (Belle Plaine, Kansas). Otherwise, it will be assumed that Holland, Michigan is the only place with a festival called Tulip Time, right? Ackander 09:09, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
I do not feel that the articles Tulip Time Festival and Tulip Festival should be merged. Being the third largest festival in the country is a very notable fact which warrants its own article. Having anywhere from half a million to sometimes over million visitors to a small town such as Holland, Michigan (pop 35,000) is no small feat. --Pchov 08:12, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
The merge tags have been on these pages for over a year now. Since there has been somewhat overwhelming support to keep Tulip Time Festival as a separate article I am removing the merge tag from both articles. --Pchov 07:28, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Here are some links for other tulip festivals in the US and Canada. I can provide links for some international festivals as well, but need some time to compile them.
