Three Egyptian armies

[edit]

Dear Noclador, I have now found a deletion request you filed as speedy delete for the First Egyptian Army org diagram in February 2020 - the sources are bullshit - and reinstated it with my name at the very end. The new sources can be seen at the deletion discussion. There are two armies with no intermediate corps in the east, under a higher command, and four military districts. First Army (United Arab Republic) was a designation covering forces in Syria, though some ill-informed sources have said it control(s) forces to the rear of Second and Third Armies. I am not sure why you got so angry so quickly, but I had no intention of offending you, and no intention of blackmailing you. The data on the verified 2018 organisation of the two armies and four military districts (eg Northern Military Region (Egypt)) is all available at the articles in question. Happy to elaborate or explain further.

Then I want to work with you to create an org diagram covering the Unified Command and its two armies and its divisions; and the four districts, down to division level. Buckshot06 (talk) 08:29, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If there is an issue, always come to my talkpage. I will work with anyone to resolve any issue as quickly as possible. That said: Ok, let's delete the 1st Army graphic, and then we work on creating correct graphics and overwrite the two other files. All easy, if you tell me on my talkpage what needs to be done. Best regards, noclador (talk) 09:15, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK so please endorse the new Commons deletion request for First Army. Second, er, Second Army - in May 2018 comprised 6th Armd Div, HQ Mansoura; 7th Mech Div; 18th Mech Div (no certain locations for the other div HQs); 135th Ind Mech Brigade; two independent artillery brigades; independent engineer water brigade; independent engineer bridge brigade; independent engineer construction brigade. Source is listed at the deletion discussion. Please do note that the structure is as of May 2018. Buckshot06 (talk) 09:50, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am in the middle of updating the 298 Italian Army articles I wrote, but I will find time for the graphics. I didn't find at which of the many deletion discussions the actual structure can be found. Also is this all we know about the Second Army?
  • 6th Armd Div, HQ Mansoura
  • 7th Mech Div
  • 18th Mech Div
  • 135th Mech Brigade
  • 2× independent artillery brigades
  • engineer water brigade
  • engineer bridge brigade
  • engineer construction brigade
This seems awfully little for creating a graphic. Do we know anything about the division structures? Best regards, noclador (talk) 00:20, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing reliable apart from the usual 2/1 split of mech/armd brigades in mech divs etc. Data is super thin. I would rather we concentrated on division level and above. The diagram at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Egyptian_Army_-_Second_Field_Army.png reflects (a) Egyptian disinformation; and (b) we usually deal with European armies etc who are open, transparent, instead of Egypt - completely closed and suspicious. Can clarify / expand supporting data by e-mail if necessary. Buckshot06 (talk) 11:46, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Noclador best wishes for all the work you are doing re north and east of Egypt.

In accordance with https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/docs/CENTRAL%20INTELLIGENCE%20BULL%5B15777415%5D.pdf page 12 of 16 pages (actually says p4 on the actual page) I have made a number of changes to the First Army file page, including a request for renaming to First Army, United Arab Republic, October 1958. If that move is successful I can start to put together a list of what the Syrians might have had in October 1958, so the diagram can be vaguely accurate. Buckshot06 (talk) 07:33, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The name change has been accepted and I can start digging around for a 1958 UAR/Syrian order of battle. Buckshot06 (talk) 07:59, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

British Army changes

[edit]

For your graphics;

- 5 Regt AAC and 6 Regt AAC of the 1st Aviation Brigade Combat Team now both have their Headquarters at Middle Wallop (not Aldergrove/Bury St Edmunds.)

- 1 Rifles is still under 7 Light BCT (even when based in Cyprus). 1 PWRR of 20th Armoured BCT is also in Cyprus right now. More precisely, 1 PWRR is at Episkopi, and 1 Rifles is at Dhekelia.

- in 19th Brigade, the entire brigade is made of Reserve units (some aren't marked as reserve)

- 3RSME is at Minley, not Minley Manor

- Combat Manoeuvre Centre is at BOVINGTON

Fixed. Thank you for letting me know, noclador (talk) 17:03, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
32 Regiment Royal Artillery is now under the command of Joint Aviation Command, not Surveillance Group, Field Army Troops
2 Yorkshire Regiment missing 'Royal' Yorkshire Regiment in graphic (Land Warfare Centre) PAWPERSO (talk) 21:17, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PAWPERSO: Does this mean Surveillance Group has now no units? Should I leave it in or remove the entry for Surveillance Group?? noclador (talk) 01:15, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I say leave surveillance group HQ in there with no units under it. We won’t know for certain what’s happening with it until the defence review in a few months. PAWPERSO (talk) 04:36, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. I used the same blue color for 32 and 47 Rgt. Royal Artillery. If that is incorrect, please let me know. Best regards, noclador (talk) 10:20, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi noclador: In line with the information about the dates for nomination for military historian of the year: please send me the count of the number of articles that you have written at B class and the ones that you have improved to B class in both 2023 and 2024. 2023 is mostly for background but I think it will improve the nomination. Note the deadline for the end of the month. I am looking forward to nominating you for this award. Donner60 (talk) 05:05, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
