I think that this page is a little bit too "Self-promotional" of the Metroplex.

I do not think this page is following the NPOV

Milwaukee in Chicagoland?

[edit]

I could be mistaken, but I don't think the Milwaukee area is generally considered part of Chicagoland (nor does the author of the linked article). Funnyhat 22:58, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Just Dallas

[edit]

As far as I know, the term "Metroplex" is only used for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Having studied cities formally in college and informally my whole life, I can say I've never come accross this term being used in any other context. I think this page should just redirect to Dallas/Fort_Worth_Metroplex. EmergentProperty 16:46, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I concur, I live near Toronto, and I have never heard the Golden Horseshoe or the Greater Toronto Area referred to as a "metroplex", only Dallas-Fort Worth. --128.100.93.153 01:06, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Citations needed for this definition.

[edit]

As far as I knew, Metroplex only mean Dallas Fort Worth. The ex in slapped on the end of Metropolis as in the ex in Texas.

As far as what's common, a google for "metroplex" returns 2.4 million hits [3], while one for "metroplex -dallas -worth -arlington -garland" get 677,000 hits [4]. So about 72% of all uses of the word "metroplex" on the internet are referring to DFW. — Laura Scudder 03:41, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: "Google evidence" like this is highly dubious. Hit count searches are useful as a starting point but trying to draw conclusions from such searches has no real merit. --Mcorazao (talk) 21:53, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NORCAL METROPLEX

[edit]

This is in response to the NORCAL Metroplex...the description seems a bit off...If you really look at it, there are TWO metroplexes in NORCAL...ONE is the BAY AREA including all the towns/cities people generally think of as THE BAY, but really all the way out to Vallejo at minimum, up to maybe Novato and down to San Jose...and the SECOND is the Sacramento (Valley) Metroplex that goes from Vacaville through Sac to the Sierra foothills, up to Yuba City and down to Elk Grove...anything below that becomes Central Valley...though the two major metroplexes do touch in several places...(Use Google Earth or equivalent and see what I mean) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.172.169.14 (talk) 12:10, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"DFW>>North Texas" fact check

[edit]

The fact check for Recent conventions are moving toward the use of "North Texas" to describe the DFW area has been there a month without a citation issued. I move that the statement be removed on or after May 21st if no citation has been given by that time. Collegebookworm (talk) 05:11, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge or disamig

[edit]

Given that there are articles for metropolitan area and Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex this "topic" has little additional notability, certainly not enough to merit an article. One of the following should happen:

--Mcorazao (talk) 21:51, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And to respond to those who would argue that a metroplex is a combination of metro areas I think that falls into the category of a "distinction without a difference". There is no widely recognized definition of metroplex which is distinct in any meaningful way from the definition of a metropolitan area. --Mcorazao (talk) 22:01, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As is evident by the content of this article and the discussions on this talk page, the term "Metroplex" is used only for DFW. Therefore I just redirected it to Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. I also adjusted the link on Metroplex (disambiguation) to bypass this page and go straight to Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, and added a redirect tag to Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex pointing back to Metroplex (disambiguation). And I moved the "Origin of the term" section from this page to Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The rest of the previous content of this page was redundant. There is no need to disambig "Metroplex" towards "Metropolitan area" since "Metroplex" only means Dallas. EmergentProperty (talk) 01:45, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
