Tone and merging

It is not references to "happy" and "joy" which are inappropriate for the tone of an encyclopedic, it is things like interjecting "What a woman!" at the end of a paragraph. If you were writing for a term paper, I doubt you would find it appropriate to throw in comments like that.

As for whether you "refuse" to have this character merged -- sorry, you don't have final say. Neither of the two main reasons for giving a fictional character an article separate from the fiction they appear in apply here: Matoya is not a character complex enough to need a separate article to discuss her, and she has not gained any significance outside Final Fantasy I. There have been playable characters from the Final Fantasy games whose separate articles have been put up for votes by the community and the verdict has been to merge those articles, so your assumption that Matoya must have her own article and you can "refuse" to have it merged is, to put it politely, not well-founded.
