I am increasingly of the opinion that this page should occupy the title of [[Cadillac]] and the disambiguation page should be at Cadillac (disambiguation). When an English-speaker uses the word 'Cadillac' they mean the car brand, I suspect, 99% of the time if not more.

Thoughts? If I don't hear any good objections I plan to make the change soon. —Morven 06:43, 22 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I think this is sensible. RivGuySC 19:04, 22 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I have no objection. It might not be a bad idea to put a note at Talk:Cadillac to check if anyone else has input before making the move. -- Infrogmation 22:28, 22 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Makes sense to me, Morven. Stombs 00:33, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)

"Cadillac of..."

People still use this phrase alot, I hear people say it all the time, even in movies and T.V. series. And Cadillac is quickly making a HUGE comeback... So I am removing that part of the introduction. Any objections? MadonnaFan 21:29, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I object. I have already expressed my reasoning on your talk page. —Morven 00:57, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)

For example, in the 2003 Jim Carrey movie, Bruce Almighty, Bruce's boss gets lunch and the guy behind the counter tells him, "good choice, that is the Cadillac of balogna." I can think of MANY more examples... MadonnaFan 02:26, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

And how about all the rappers, athletes, and movie stars that get their Escalades sittin' on 22's? And the Presidents' car? I know Cadillac is still trying to regain some of it's luster, but come on! MadonnaFan 02:28, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Changing the picture

The picture on the article page is hideous, The Sixteen it the ultimate represetation of modern day Cadillac!!!! MadonnaFan 21:58, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)

The picture you replaced it with is without attribution and is probably a copyright violation. If you plan to claim fair use, please do so.
In any case, the Sixteen, no matter how wonderful it might be, is a concept car that has not been put into production and probably will never be. Any car manufacturer can produce delicious concept cars. It's their success in producing production vehicles that matters.
There may be a case for placing a good, correctly licensed picture of a current production Cadillac in the 'top spot' on the page. If so, argue it, or go find one ... —Morven 00:57, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)
P.S. You would do well by losing the multiple exclamation points, the overblown statements, and the general fanboy attitudes. Wikipedia is not a place to be boosting things you like and knocking things you don't like, we're about the serious business of building an encyclopedia. —Morven 00:59, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)

Don't lecture me, please. And Cadillac is going to have an ultra-luxury sedan powered by nothing less than a V-12 on the market by 2009... And don't even go down the fanboy route, I am not knocking anything, just adding to the MANY things I know ALOT about ;-) MadonnaFan 02:23, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

A V12? Nothing there that hasn't been done by Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW ...
But anyway, do you see the point about the Sixteen not really being representative of current Cadillac, since it's a showcar/dreamcar, not a production vehicle? I think we'd do better to get a good picture of a current model. —Morven 05:09, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)
A better picture would be of a CTS since it's the current design and technology leader at the company. I see no reason NOT to include the Sixteen picture, since it's the company's future image direction (kind of like putting a picture of the 1990 "Park Avenue Essence" on the Buick page would be a nice summary of the company's design). No matter, it's bad form to replace a clearly relevant pic with another. Cadillac has a future AND a history to be proud of. --SFoskett 15:48, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)

Morven, The Sixteen is a concept car, not a dream car/show car. They are going to make it in some form or another, i.e. the V-12 sedan that they will have by 2009... and the DeVille replacement, the DTS, will come out as an 06' model and use design features taken from the Sixteen. And a show car is just that, a show piece, something pretty an auto maker puts out there for show/publicity, a concept car contains future design cues and technology that will be integrated into that automakers lineup, i.e. the Sixteen... Just like the Evoq and Vizon are concept cars as they became the SRX and XLR and used alot of the same technology...

Sfoskett, that pic is not the best picture of an older Cadillac, and you know it. Also, the XLR and STS are the technology leaders at Cadillac, not the CTS ;-) MadonnaFan 21:50, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Granted, the Sixteen isn't a complete flight of fancy - it probably COULD be produced in some fashion. But still, they're not going to produce it. The V-12 sedan will no doubt be quite toned down from that concept. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the Sixteen in production (I'd love to be well-off enough to buy it, for that matter) but it isn't going to be. —Morven 22:25, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)
Frankly, I quite like the pics we have now—Cadillac has such a rich history it's nice to travel down memory lane.
Not to take anything away from MadonnaFan but I personally have a bias against concept cars in a context like an encyclopædia, though I agree the Sixteen has some significance with design cues, and represents Lutz's influence. If we have a cleared picture of the Sixteen, I wouldn't object, but one that might violate copyright is a problem. Stombs 21:33, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)

Allante? Classic? *Cough*

[edit]

Is this sentence (and, in fact, much of this article) not POV?

"The car was, sadly, not a commercial success, but today stands out as a modern classic and more than able to hold its own, image-wise, next to its Mercedes-Benz SL rival."

Many would disagree, even today.
