Deletion

[edit]

I proposed the page for deletion. You can read the reaon on the main page. If I detailled the page, it included:

A definition, somehow similar to the Mysogyny page:

Male chauvinism is the term for the belief that males are superior to females.

Some considerations on how the terme was created.

The word "chauvinist" was originally used to describe someone who has a fanatical loyalty in one's country. The word was later applied by the women's liberation movement in the 1960's and used to describe men who uphold the belief of female inferiority.

A POV statement, without source, with anti-feminist bias

At times the term has been unfairly applied to men whom do not believe that women are inferior to men. This "playing of the gender card" is sometimes done in an effort to gain power or escape responsibility.

A true info

The slur "Male Chauvinist Pig" (MCP) has been reclaimed by some men as a jocular personal rebuttal or tolerance of such accusations.

The page should be either deleted, or at least merged with more relevant page. "Male Chauvinism" should then directly lead to the Mysogyny page. -—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Narval (talkcontribs) .

I disagree. Since this is a term which has been corrupted in common parlance (the loss of the crucial descriptor "male" leaving only "chauvinism" as a synonym for "male chauvinism") an encyclopedia entry for the formal term is necessary.24.165.210.213 23:55, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to not be able to stand on it's own

[edit]

This article seems to need to be in the main article instead of off on it's own, as there's little content in it. --Pichu0102 20:02, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I support the proposed merger with Chauvinism. The articles are so short that there is no reason for a spinout article.-Andrew c 03:34, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
