French Place
[edit]Olivier, although no definitive naming convention has been agreed upon for city names, the general consensus is to disambiguate using the name of the country unless otherwise is required. In the case of Die, I do not know of nor can find any cities in France named Die except for the one in the Drôme department. If there are, Die, Drôme would be justified, otherwise it is not. Jeronimo
After thinking about it, I agree with you. I was initally thinking that it would prevent future disambiguation needs and pages creations/deletions. But, you are right, that will make the linking easier to use xxx,France rather than xxx, departement. Disambiguation can be done later to the departement level if needed. - User:Olivier
- Ok, great! Jeronimo
Using "Die" as a Live Example of Proposed Format
[edit]At Wikipedia talk:Disambiguation/Style a more standardized (and to some of us largely new) approach has been proposed. This is at least a personal experiment with applying it to a Dab i recently rewrote, to see how it feels in that familiar context.
This may be compared to the before-and-after of my dab rewrite earlier this week (before becoming aware of the proposal), but not perfectly so:
- i found a better target this time for the "substrate" sense, and
- during this exercise, i did a needed move of the old target that makes the respective entries for the "substrate" sense, in the old dabs, now work via a redirect altho they previously did so directly, as is appropriate.
Die may mean:
- Die (manufacturing), device that imposes a shape upon material, esp. metal
- Gambling or game device, one of a set of dice
- Micro-electronic substrate, subjected to wafer test and device test
- Die, Drôme, a region in France
- Death

I was tempted to use a "See also" with Death bcz confusing a noun and verb is a form of misnomer, but it's not so much a confusion in this case as a misunderstanding of our gerund-instead-of-infinitive convention for using verbs as titles.
- I vote for the "see also" version for Death, or perhaps "Die may also refer to:" because it would be helpful to keep noun and verb usages separate. —Wahoofive (talk) 16:08, 19 May 2005 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]Die (disambiguous) → Die – Someone with apparently good intentions has changed the page Die into a redirect for Death and moved the previous contents. I think this change should be reverted. Liffey 07:22, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

- Support. Die has other common meanings, especially as a noun. --Usgnus 02:35, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Add any additional comments
- I've restored the page to the previous title. I'm not going to remove the requested move notice just yet in case anyone wonders what happened or wants to suggest some alternative outcome. older ≠ wiser 13:32, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
