I have removed Gourd, Pumpkin, and Winter melon from this category because I believe the category should be limited to sweet and juicy fruits.

In support, I quote Merriam-Webster's definition[1]:

  1. any of various gourds (as a muskmelon or watermelon) usually eaten raw as fruits
  2. something rounded like a melon: as a: the rounded organ in the front of the head of some cetaceans b: plural, slang : large breasts
  3. a: a surplus of profits available for distribution to stockholders b : a financial windfall

and the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary[2]:

a large round fruit with hard yellow or green skin, sweet juicy flesh and a lot of seeds

(Emphasis is mine.)

By contrast, the three that I removed are never eaten raw as fruits, but cooked as vegetables. They might occasionally be eaten raw as vegetables.

Ogan

[edit]

Is there not a type of melon called an ogan, which could be included here? ACEOREVIVED (talk) 00:48, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
