Immigration patterns
[edit]The assertion that German immigration to Jo Daviess County didn't ramp up until the 1880s is patently incorrect. This is borne out by the presence of German-Americans on Civil War muster rolls for Illinois regiments. The "History" section in this article needs a rework. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.91.229.28 (talk) 04:58, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]Having grown up in the area, it's been my experience that the the Daviess portion of the name is often actually pronounced more as Da-vie-s instead of Davis.

I grew up nearby, and whenever there was a severe weather warning, the TV announcer would always say it like "Daveys," like, more than one boy named Davy.
Wondering if the original author would like to comment on this. --Uac1530 06:43, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- I moved to the area in March '06. On WCCI (Savanna, Carroll County, IL), announcers pronounce it "Jo Davis" and I've overheard locals in and near JD County pronounce it either "Jo Davis" or even drop the O entirely and say "J'Davis". I'll go with my own observations and those of the webmasters here: "Those who have lived in the area all their lives pronounce Daviess as “Davis,” but you will often hear it spoken as “Davees” by those who have not grown up here." Hey I was curious if anyone knew about anything Rodden, Illinois. You can search it on mapquest... I know there is a Rodden Road outside of Galena. I've also come across some genealogical information on people being born from or dieing in "Rodden, Illinois". I also read that there used to be a train station or something in Rodden, but beyond this stuff I have no clue.
If it merits it, I think it would be great to have an article on Wikipedia about it. But first I need info. If someone could leave a message on my talk page or e-mail me I would really appreciate it! Thanks! Chupper 14:52, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
History -
[edit]"The local pronunciation, as in "Davis", is probably an echo of the correct pronunciation and spelling."
This is unsubstaniated and not necessarily true. Cairo, Illinois is definitely not an echo of the correct pronunciation of Cairo, Egypt.
How is it pronounced in the other states that have a Daviess county?
This should read "The local pronunciation is "Davis."

Why isn't Jo Daviess County included in the Dubuque, IA MSA, even though East Dubuque is part of the Dubuque, IA area?
[edit]I am unsure why Jo Daviess County, IL isn't contained within the Dubuque, IA MSA, even though Jo Daviess County is adjacent to the city of Dubuque, IA and the city of East Dubuque, IL within Jo Daviess County is considered part of the Dubuque, IA area.
There are also some U.S. counties with less population than Jo Daviess County, IL that are contained within a Metropolitan Statistical Area.
There are also clear economic ties between Jo Daviess County, IL and the city of Dubuque, IA to support the addition of Jo Daviess County to the Dubuque, IA MSA.
