How do I make a desk for the CleanUp force?

Im going to be part o the CleanUp force, but I need some "technical" answers. First, how do I make a desk?, I could´nt find how to do one. And second, how did you did to customize so much your user page?.

Welcome! To add a desktop, just enter this onto your page:

{{cleanup user link}}

This will create a redlink (a link to a nonexistent page) to your desk. Then go there and write some stuff there. You can copy mine if you like. Just go to User:Tony Sidaway/Desk and click the edit link and select all the text and then copy, then go to your Cleanup Tasforce Desk redlink and create the article, and paste in the text of mine. Then edit according to your own identity and choices.

As to how I customized my page, well you can find that out just by looking at the source (by clicking edit on my page). Quite a lot of the customization makes use of the Template mechanism. Where you see something like {{cleanup user link}} this is a template reference, and you can visit the template itself by entering (for instance) Template:cleanup user link. In my case I use three main templates:

• [[Template:Users/TopNav]]
  • This draws the buttons with their names.
  • I invoke it as : {{Users/TopNav|username=Tony Sidaway}}
• [[Template:User Tony Sidaway/User]]
  • This is my personal information template--the part with a picture and some useful links.
  • I invoke it as: {{User Tony Sidaway/User}}

I also use the __NOTOC__ directive to suppress table of contents on my user page.

Another trick I employ is to use a table to force the pictures into the right hand column so that the text occupies the left and middle.

There are various other things (such as the [[fr:Tony Sidaway]] transwiki link to my French user page.

You may also note that:

• My talk page uses a link bar for access to the archives.
• I've made all the other subpages (Deletion, Sandbox, etc) similar to my main userpage, which helps with navigation. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 23:14, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
