Genres

[edit]

Manson is not a solo artist. Genres in the infobox refer to her bands' cited genres, which readers can easily refer to by clicking her bands' articles. --Lapadite (talk) 19:58, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at Template:Infobox_musical_artist#genre, we are still breaking some rules here. First there is "The genre or genres of music performed by the act. Aim for generality (e.g. Hip hop rather than East Coast hip hop) and preferably use 2-4." We are currently listing 8. Also "Genres that are sourced in the article itself do not require a source in the infobox, but sometimes it can be useful to have the source listed again anyway, to help prevent edit warring." There are none mentioned in the article. If you want to include the genres, find specific information about what her groups have performed in, and keep it brief. Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:07, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Guidelines. Yes well 4 genres encompassing her career with her bands may be used; say, Alt rock, electronic rock, indie rock, and trip hop or electronica. The other is the general sourcing guideline for music. I've seen no particular guideline on a member of a band, who doesn't put out records his or herself, needing their bands' cited genres sourced in their article, and many well-sourced band-member/lead-singer articles I've come across just use the member's band's genres. Let me consult a relevant Wikiproject, see what other editors have to say about this.--Lapadite (talk) 20:31, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, Andrzejbanas, the common Wiki etiquette is to wait discussion resolution before reverting. Edit: Nvm, didn't see the timestamp on my notification. --Lapadite (talk) 20:34, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I don't think we need to get into specific details like that as Manson's groups don't tread too far, but regardless you still need sources per the "Genres that are sourced in the article itself do not require a source in the infobox, but sometimes it can be useful to have the source listed again anyway". I don't think we need four genres as alternative rock and electronica or electronic rock seem to satisfy the other ones (namely indie rock, trip-hop, industrial, etc.). I'm open to suggestions of course and would much rather have sources back up what is the most common terms propped on her groups. I'm really only familiar with Garbage and don't know much about Angelfish or anything else. You are a much bigger fan, so you could probably dig out the info easier. :)Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:47, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah indie rock is related to Alt rock and trip hop to electronic music, so Alt rock and electronic rock, being the major genres, will be used. Regarding her previous bands, I don't know anything beyond what is stated in her article and the Garbage band article really. In the meantime, let me find a sourced statement or two from the Garbage article that refers to those genres. --Lapadite (talk) 21:06, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Actually a simple sentence stating 'Garbage's genres include such and such' with the sources would suffice for now.--Lapadite (talk) 21:28, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

June 2021

[edit]

user Goodreg3 had recently uploaded a screenshot of Manson from a youtube video on wikipedia (In May 2021)[1] and put it in the infobox. [2]. Next to this poor resolution image, there is a better picture available with a good light and quite a good resolution available[3] who portrays better the artist. so there is a wp:edit war because this user absolutely wants to place their own image in the box. A screenshot can be used for artists only in cases when there is no other image available but that ain't the case here. Woovee (talk) 01:31, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Goodreg3 has to stop their disruptive edits, concerning the image in the infobox. Woovee (talk) 03:14, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rezillos/Monster Beach Party

[edit]

In Manson's filmography, there is a row for Monster Beach Party, which links to Rezillos. If one clicks through, Rezillos redirects to The Rezillos which has no mention of "Monster Beach Party" or Manson. This row was added by this change, which is a minor edit for some reason. I went back and checked the 2011-05-21 version of Rezillos. Still no mention of Monster Beach Party. Is Monster Beach Party an acting work by Manson? Is it associated with The Rezillos in any way? Is Manson associated with The Rezillos in any way? Is there something else named Rezillos that is in some way relevant to Monster Beach Party? It would help if someone could fill in the relevant information (including citations) and clean up the links. If Monster Beach Party is not significant enough for a Wikipedia page, then it shouldn't be linked. Rezillos would make more sense in the explanation. Or perhaps The Rezillos should have a section for Monster Beach Party, if they have something to do with it. As written, it implies that Monster Beach Party is an alternate name for The Rezillos, but there's no other evidence of that. Mdfst13 (talk) 06:42, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Shirley Manson

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Shirley Manson's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
