Tagging
[edit]While this is a somewhat imperfect enterprise; rather than tagging, try to find the references yourself...if nothing close materializes than delete the material after a while. Common sense tells you that by scrolling through the Riley paintings in the first ref you can see the impact of Vasarely in her black and white paintings..and the second references her interest in Futurism....close enough..can also be observed..is the key phrase...Modernist (talk) 22:48, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Bibliography
[edit]In order to insert some needed/requested citations, I propose to add a new section, with the title Bibliography. Into the Bibliography I will add the text Bridget Riley, Dialogues on Art. Robert Kudielka (editor). Thames and Hudson, London. ISBN 0-500-97627-9. --Михал Орела 19:03, 29 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by MihalOrela (talk • contribs)
Practising Abstraction — finding the source for the use of assistants by Bridget Riley
[edit]I propose to deal with the "missing citation" concerning the text:
"In many works since this period, Riley has employed others to paint the pieces, while she concentrates on the actual design of her work[citation needed]".
In the book, "Bridget Riley, Dialogues on Art", there is a section entitled "Practising Abstraction, talking to Michael Craig-Martin", pp 53-67. The reference to Bridget Riley's "method of work" is to be found on pages 62-63. Specifically, Michael Craig-Martin states
"You're unusual as a contemporary painter in that you have used assistants really for a very long time, and it's been a controversial question, I think, in your work, and I think this is extremely interesting."
In her reply, Bridget Riley says
"It may sound strange to you but at the beginning — I have used assistants since my first black and white painting — this aspect of my work passed virtually without comment. Today there is more curious, conservative criticism of such a practice than there was when I started."

Things to Enjoy — finding the source for the way in which Bridget Riley sees and uses Colour
[edit]In my opinion the following text on page 87 of the text "Bridget Riley, Dialogues on Art" is appropriate.
"I think it would be impossible to go to Egypt and be unaware of the enormous area of light-mirroring desert on each side of the Nile, the whiteness of it, the dazzle of it and the purity of air this particular landscape creates, threaded as it is by long parallel lines of strongly coloured vegetation and by the blue shades in the river itself. It provides a perfect context for Egyptian art and its monuments — one immediately sees why the ancient civilisation used such brilliant colours."

Early life
[edit]A citation is requested to support the "disorienting effect" of her "Op Art" style:
"Around 1960 she began to develop her signature Op Art style consisting of black and white geometric patterns that explore the dynamism of sight and produce a disorienting effect on the eye.[citation needed]"

Birthplace
[edit]The current Tate source here just says "Norwood" but Norwood is a DAB page and there is no single article for "Norwood, London". Her entry at FreeBMD is here but it just says that her birth was registered in Croydon. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:26, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
