Copyvio

[edit]

I hate to say it, but we can't put even a derived version of Christopher Lancaster's work into Wikipedia without his consent. I'm going to have to revert that addition to the article since I googled and found it came right out of Lancaster's book. Thanks for the help NPOV'ing it, but we've unfortunately got to take it out since it's based on copyrighted material.

Have I ever mentioned that I absolutely hate copyright law, along with other forms of government granted monopoly? Jdavidb 14:14, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I guess you saw my Agorist edit. BTW, how do you enter your (UTC) time Carltonh?

Hmm, not yet.

"In rats" -- lol

[edit]

Stevia, in high concentrations, tastes bitter and slightly like liquorice; it also is reported to have negative health effects on fertility ... in rats. Heh, heh. :) Yes, that definitely NPOV's it. :) Jdavidb 00:18, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC) -- Actually, even the studies that show danger in rats are pretty poor, small scale studies with better ones finding no problems in rats, but I figured the point would be made by adding two words, especially considering the massive use by the Japanese without harm. By comparison 75% of all adverse reactions on ANY product reported to the FDA are all on aspartame alone which the FDA calls "safe." Carltonh 15:24, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Church of Christ

[edit]

Carlton - good edit on Church of Christ. Why did you mark it "minor?" Seemed pretty significant to me. Danlovejoy 00:43, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I guess it was minor relative to the scope of the page, but probably should have not marked minor. That section on common practices and beliefs has got too long and needs to be separated somehow into at least two sections on degrees of importance. As is, it lists VBS in the same section as doctrines. Carltonh 17:29, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Assume good faith

[edit]

One of the fundamental principles of Wikiepdia is to assume good faith by other editors. This edit summary:

  • Correction of serious, probably intentional error by opponents.[1]

seems to assume bad faith. The "error" in question may be significant, but it is apparently one that only someone very familiar with Robert's ideas could discern. I see you've been contributing here for a long time, and that's appreciated. Even so, please treat your fellow editors as you would want to be treated. Why "Nazarenes" fit in the "Millerites" section?

[edit]

Hello. I'm translating "Restorationism" into Spanish. I noticed you made this edition [2] in June. I am doing some investigation while translating but I see no evident connection between the Nazarene movement and the Millerite heritage. The 7th day doctrine made its way into mainstream Adventism from Seventh-day Baptist influence (through pioneer Rachel Oakes in New Hampshire). Maybe you can shed more light on this relationship regarding to the Church of God or other post-millerite branches. I'd appreciate your comments because I'm pretty interested in this connection. Thanks in advance. --Haylli (My talk page)

Greetings. I'm not part of either the Nazarene movement, or any Millerite or 7th day movement, but have communicated to quite a few others that are. I think these movements have converged from Messianic Judaism and the Church of God's attempt to follow the Mosaic Law. And so there is more of a "cross-contamination" than a lineal split. I get emails from those who seemingly are in both circles, with the main difference I see as an observer being that the Nazarenes (who are not one unified group, but quite a few with different interpretations) use Jewish names and terminology. See www.nazarene.net, www.nazareneisrael.org , and the Nazarenes have taken interest in ideas like www.britam.org, but not stressed like the Church of God. Still, the convergence is significant enough that there must have been some influential people who have been in both movements. Otherwise, it not make sense that a "Nazarene" acquantaince would send me a Herbert W. Armstrong book. Carltonh 23:47, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. I think some relationship can be understood on jewish-like traits, like Sabbath keeping and taboos on impure food (mainly pork), but I consider it to be purely incidental. I keep on searching some type of genetical or historical relationship that leads me to include Nazarenes in the same section as Millerites. ¿Could Nazarenes be counted as restorationists?. Thanks for your feedback. --Haylli (My talk page)

Homeschooling project

[edit]

Hello, My name Master Scott Hall (you can call me Scott). I am relatively new contributing to Wikipedia, though I have been a user of it for some time. I am currently soliciting for interest in a Wikiproject that I have proposed on the subject of homeschooling. Before finding Wikipedia, my wife and I were seriously considering, but not quite convinced, to home educate our children.

After discovering the depth, scope, and long-term goals of Wikipedia, as well as the individuals driving it, I am convinced that WP has the potential to revolutionize homeschooling. I am also convinced that home education is the right choice for my family. I have, however, been somewhat discouraged by the oversight of home education in most of the education related projects on WP. There are many potential reasons for this discrepency, but I have resolved to try to do something about it.

Although I personally have very limited experience in building complex Wikiprojects, -templates, -portals, etc., I am confident that the right team can be assembled to tackle these issues. I would like to invite you to join this effort to make Wikipedia the resource for the home education of our children. If you are interested, please visits the temporary project page I have set up. Thank you --Master Scott Hall 21:30, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Update: The proposed project on Homeschooling was met with a very positive response. As a result, the project has been ugraded to an official WikiProject and can be found at WikiProject Alternative education. We have several experienced Wikipedians on board, as well as some new faces. We still need contributors with backgrounds in education, education theory and philosophy, and specific alternative education methods, such as homeschooling, charter schools, and E-learning from both teacher and student perspectives. There is also a lack of quality resources regarding anti-alternative education issues. If are interested in contributing or just have an interest, please visit the project page, or if you prefer, ask us a question. Thank you again, Master Scott Hall 18:44, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you happen to have a citation on Fanning's conviction for treason referenced in Talk:David Lipscomb? It could well enhance Fanning's article, if verifiable. Thanks, Alan Canon 21:08, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Might as well let the cat out of the bag. This one is a lion. This article should significantly influence what is on the David Lipscomb article, but I guess I don't have to keep it for myself until I'm ready to do it. Do a search for the word "treason" and you'll go right to it:

Petrodollar warfare article

[edit]

You were one of the people who were most adamant on the 'keep' side of the AfD for the Petrodollar Warfare article, and thus one of those most likely to have something interesting to say about my proposed changes to it, which are sweeping and somewhat skeptical. Please take a look at my comments on the article's talk page. -Toptomcat (talk) 00:15, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Carltonh! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 1 of the articles that you created is currently tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 13 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
