New Category
[edit]Me again. I just created a category for Wikipedian Aikidoka. Feel a little foolish being the only entry so a quick heads up to the few Aikidoists that have interacted with me on my talk page. If you wish to add yourself to the list of Wikipedian aikidoka, add:
- [[Category:Wikipedian aikidoka|{{PAGENAME}}]]
to your user page.Peter Rehse 02:39, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Don't worry about the addition. I just sent out the info to a couple of people - I am sure it will fill up on its own. Yes - it is one of the shodokan rubber tantos and I was not holding it. I have just received some even better shots from my sandan. Will put those up eventually but I have to decide where. By the by - I will be removing names in red with no explanation (or putting some explanation in myself) from the List of Aikidoka. Done a bit already and I appreciate the effor you did for Europe. Just a name I feel is not good enough. Cheers.Peter Rehse 07:42, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Dance capitalization
[edit]I want to thank you for all the work you've done in regards to capitalizing dance names. I always thought that many of them were inappropriately capitalized, but I wasn't sure if that was a Wikipedia policy, so I never had the guts to change them myself. Good job! --Cswrye 21:29, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
I must differ with Cswrye here. All of the evidence that I have found on the subject indicates the opposite. Mainly in the case of Lindy Hop, but also other dances that I am familiar with, the name of the dance is almost always capitalized as a proper noun. (In the case of Lindy Hop I have cited several examples on the discussion page, and in a (fairly quick) search I did not come across a counterexample. I have also checked the website of the Arthur Murray franchise of dance studios, and found the names of ballroom and latin dances capitalized there. I have not done an extensive literature search, but I would like to know what the evidence is that these names should not be capitalized. --Michael Richters 23:35, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
The references that I produced to support my argument that the name "Lindy Hop" is a proper noun were all written by people who are very careful and skilled with language. I have only seen the term written as "lindy hop" when the author is otherwise lazy with punctuation, spelling, etc. If you have any evidence for your argument that the term is used mainly as a common noun, it would be nice if you could contribute it to the discussion that is now taking place on WikiProject_Dance. --Michael Richters 04:35, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Hey Habj, thought I'd shoot you a note in case you don't have Lindy Hop watchlisted: the dance capitalization issue has RE-opened, but is finally being taken up (hopefully solely) on the Wikiproject Dance page here. From past discussions, I thought you might want to weigh in.--Will.i.am 02:39, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Japan Collaboration
[edit]Hi Habj, and thanks for the question about Japan being collaboration of the week. I think I won't pursue it at this time. The article recently had an edit war and probably needs some time for that to settle down. It was Good Article Collaboration and much good came of that. By the way, the Featured Article candidacy was a long time ago, and I hope we'll make it back there ... some day... but meantime I'm tending to other matters while people duke it out on the Japan article. Best regards, Fg2 07:11, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, now I see I misunderstood you. It's Housing in Japan that you were asking about. That has been listed as the Japanese Collaboration of the (week? month?) for some time, with sporadic contributions. I continue to contribute in dribs and drabs, and have a photo to scan, but keeping it as the Japanese Collaboration seems fruitless. Let's give another article a chance at it. Again, thanks. Fg2 07:17, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Voting for the Japan Collaboration is just about dead. We almost eliminated it several months ago because of that. If there's an article you want people to collaborate on, why not just declare it to be a Japan Collaboration and see if it does any good. You might find a few people helping for the first week or so. And maybe it will generate some new interest in the JCOTW. Fg2 21:29, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Bonjour

Icebird images
[edit]Hi. Perhaps GFDL was not the appropriate licence. The help guides aren't of much help, so I don't understand the licences that much... sorry. The one from Rigby Heinmann I found in an Atlas. Guard Llamas
[edit]Habj - thank for your comments. I reviewed your entry on my talk page and noted most of the links you had provided I had already used. However, it is nice to have them in one place instead of digging around for them all the time. I noticed you're tri-lingual - English, French and the third one I could not recognize. Anyway, that's off subject.
I will see what I can do about finding some more information about guard llamas. I have truly enjoyed creating the article. Also, if I have pictures of guard llamas doing their job with a flock of sheep or what have you, can I just upload it? Do I need to virtually sign something that it is sharable to the world? Thanx! Welcome to Esperanza!
[edit]Welcome, Habj, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Red Links
[edit]I'm not sweeping them all away but the occaisional clean-up helps keep things neat. Some of them have been there for a long time, some of them refer to articles of slightly different names and basically people usually create articles for other reasons and then go looking for places to link. Call it a dusting which I usually only do if I am doing other edits. With respect to the Terry Dobson article yes Nocquet should have his own article. Peter Rehse 01:02, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Don't worry - I don't mind discussing my editing style at all. I've had others revert some of my red link deletions pretty quick but then those reversions tend to be selective - the important ones. Some people red link everything - very strange.Peter Rehse 01:17, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Natural Burial related articles AfD nomination
[edit]Please review my comments regarding your nomination for deletion for Mike Salisbury. I have not had the chance to reply to all of the articles that have been tagged for deletion but will do so shortly. Theses articles are notable however they are WORKS IN PROCESS and require additional research and referencing. I hope you will support this initiative, although they still need work I believe they make a reasonable contribution to the encyclopaedia.Eulogy4Afriend 15:28, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Billy Campbell AfD
[edit]Please review my comments regarding your nomination for the deletion of Billy Campbell. I have referenced over 20 non-trivial, reliable published works, whose sources are independent of the subject itself.
Given that numerous independent authors, scholars, or journalists have decided to give attention to both the emerging trend of Natural Burial in North America as well as Mr. Campbell’s role as a pioneer in the natural burial movement I would suggest that the primary notability criterion to determine whether "the world" has judged this individual and topic to be notable has been met.
Please reconsider your vote Eulogy4Afriend 18:07, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
User administration
[edit]I'm asking you because I know you're admin at the Swedish Wikipedia. Are you, by any chance, admin here as well? My problem is that user:obg is registered here and I'm not sure if I did it (and forgot the password) or if it's used by somebody else. It must be possible to check when the account was most recently used, and under what IRL name it was registered, or at least what IP address/domain it was used from. Can you do this, or do you know who can? /Olle 07-02-26
- Hmmm, well. No, I am not an administrator here - but admin powers could not help you in this matter, I am afraid. To my knowledge there is no way to check if somebody has logged in on a specific account or not. The account has never been edited from, see Special:Contributions/Obg (link in the lefthand panel when you visit the user page) and so there is no IP data to check. enwiki has lots of "empty" accounts like this one, that people create simply so that no one else can take them... if the account is yours and you think you might have entered an email address in your settings, you could request a new password sent to you by email. If that doesn't work, I could possibly check something for you but that will not be done within maybe a week. The easy way of is of course to create a new account here. Putting a link on the user page here to the svwiki page and vice versa tells people who you are.
- With Single User Login coming up, accounts on different wikis will be merged. I think (but am not 100% sure I understood it correctly) that with SUL you might be granted the obg account here and on all of Wikimedia Foundation's wikis - unless there is another obg on other projects who have accounts on more wikis / have edited more than you. To have better chance I would suggest you enter an email address in all the accounts you use - make sure to use the same address on all wikis! and make sure to authentice it. I can not promise I've understood the details of how the merging of accounts is going to work, though. // habj 12:21, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! I tried the "forgot password" thingie, but it seems no mail address was registered. Well, I guess I took the easy way out... ;-) /Olle Borg 13:00, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Translation
[edit]By community-focused I mean the wikis are aimed at large groups of people who are all interested in one topic - not personal wikis, and not corporate wikis. The group of people don't need to be an existing community but they can form one because they all share an interest in Pets/Star Wars/whatever. I've just made a correction to my title on the original. If it's not easily translatable, just use co-founder or joint-founder instead. The assessments I wrote were for 7 and 11 year olds. Combining two images
[edit]The hack for combining Image:Human placenta baby side.jpg and Image:Human placenta uterine side.jpg on Placenta didn't really work, so I created a combined image, which is at Image:Human placenta both sides.jpg, and replaced the images in the article with this combined one. The only change I made was to shrink the second to make it the same width, so the combination is probably not eligible for copyright in itself, or worth putting on Commons; I've given it a PD tag as on the sources, and given you creation credit. Las Palmas
[edit]It is considered incorrect in Spanish to refer to the capital city of the province of Las Palmas as "Las Palmas", since its name is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. As the article on Las Palmas includes a link to the capital city (named properly), I think we shouldn't promote the incorrect usage with a disambig page. Redirect of St James' Primary School (Forest Lodge)
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on St James' Primary School (Forest Lodge), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because St James' Primary School (Forest Lodge) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting St James' Primary School (Forest Lodge), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 35 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 19:30, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
The article Johnny Kidd (businessman) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- I cannot find any significant coverage in reliable source to show notability for this unreferenced biography of a living person.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Chzz ► 15:30, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:JPP-at-folkest.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:JPP-at-folkest.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 14:52, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:07, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
