Australian Soccer

[edit]

Why are you reverting my changes. I have put a lot of effort into trying to get a uniformity in Australian football disambiguations so that the average person who clicks on it (who is australia) gets where they want faster and better understands where they have ended up. I do not understand your mentality in this. Xtra 12:34, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you do not intend to replace the content of the page with what you have got in your sandbox. Even if I were to accept your page move, I would never accept you relegating the far more popular codes of football to the background in the national team disambiguation. Xtra 12:49, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK if that was your reason. However, I do not appreciate you treating my edits as bad faith. If you had a real reason then why were you attacking my motives? Xtra 12:55, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lake Underwood

[edit]

You are certainly correct, Lake Underwood never participated on a Grand Prix weekend but has tested a F1 car on a off season which doesn't even count towards the FIA statistics anyway. Andreas 17:33, 10 April; 2006

Joe Marston Medal

[edit]

Hi. I found a horrible not so optimal :-) edit of you on Joe Marston Medal: [1]. Please do not subst templates like {{cite web}}. This looks awful in the wikisource (the edit window) and is a nightmare to maintain. Wiki greetings, --Ligulem 18:42, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message and sorry if I sounded a bit rude above. Unsubsting is quite hard to do. That substing behaviour of the category:citation templates is really unsatisfactorily. There is a cool proposal for a "substall" function at bugzilla:2777. Please consider voting there for it. This would exactly do what you were up to.
Substing has the drawback that all changes done on the template after the substing are not updated to what has been substed. This is very important. One has to go around with WP:AWB or some bot to update stuff, which is a real pain. The template mechanism has a built-in bot run. This is damn powerful. --Ligulem 22:20, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Show/Hide

[edit]

Yeah, it does seem to be working now. I had a quick look yesterday but didn't have time to get involved. Looking at it now it seem to be fixed because there are more than one show/hide on the page. You can see what I mean if you delete the first table (with two show/hides in it) and preview. I'm not sure why this is but would like to find out someday. - Trevor MacInnis (Talk | Contribs) 00:22, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(First off - nice work on Mark Webber, which is currently on portal:Formula One)

The F1 portal (in which I assume you have some degree of interest, as your name is listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One) is intended to have a regular rotation of a 'featured article'. I've swapped a few in and out over the last couple of months, but I think it would be better if there were more of a community attempt at deciding this, proposals, votes, that kind of thing. So - why not pop over to Portal_talk:Formula_One#Suggestions_for_Featured_Article: and make a suggestion. Ta. 4u1e 00:21, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking an opinion

[edit]

As an experienced Wikipedian with an interest in football pages and a record of work on a Featured Article, your opinion would be welcomed on a discussion at Talk:Swansea City A.F.C.. After various attempts to add a site with no original content, the site's owner has now recruited someone else to do the same. The question is this: am I correct to delete links to sites which themselves consist of others' copyrighted material and links to other sites? Given the paucity of real content, I have a strong suspicion that the site is operated on a "cash for clicks" basis.

I would like, ultimately, to see the Swansea City A.F.C. Wikipage reach Featured standard, so I am inviting opinions from Wikipedians with sustantial edit histories. Thank you for your time. - Stevecov 15:04, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have talked to him. I have explained why they should be in both as Sydney United and the lower grade soccer teams are. I think if they are there, so should the other codes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by sliat 1981 (talkcontribs)

Well he edited Newcastle Knights out, yet left Central Coast Mariners in of Sport in New South Wales. Being that they can not be catergorised in Sport in Sydney, I felt a right to put them there. --Sliat 1981 10:31, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Selected articles on Portal:F1

[edit]

Hello again.

I dropped notes round a while back to those who have listed themselves at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One to ask for suggestions for selected articles on portal:Formula One. There was a pretty good response, both in terms of how it might work and of articles suggested. Damon Hill came out with the most support and was brought up to Good Article standard after a lot of work by Skully Collins before going on as the F1 portal selected article a couple of weeks ago. It is now at Featured Article Candidates as a Featured Article candidate (why not drop by and see if you can help polish it further?).

Several people who responded to the original request suggested that a monthly or bi-weekly 'Selected Article' could act as a catalyst for an improvement drive to get more articles up to a higher standard. Although it wasn't quite what I had in mind when I started, this seemed to work pretty well for the Damon Hill article, so I've drafted up a process for doing this more regularly. See Portal_talk:Formula_One/Management_of_selected_articles for details. Essentially the suggestion is that we vote for an article to improve every couple of weeks and at the end of the improvement process the article goes on the portal as the new 'Selected Article'. I'd be grateful for any comments on how this might work - I'm sure some of you are more familiar with things 'Wiki' than me - as well as your votes for the next candidate (by 16 July).

You may also want to help with the article Gilles Villeneuve, which was the next most popular after Damon Hill. The idea is to try and get it up to GA standard by 16 July and then put it on the portal as the 'Selected Article'. I hope you can help! 4u1e 15:05, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(2005-06) Player Project

A-League 2006-07 Newsletter I

[edit]
Introduction
The first ever Wikiproject A-League newsletter is here! The 2006-07 A-League season will bring the usual enjoyment and fanaticism that only football/soccer can create. This new season also means a lot of (currently-open) tasks that require completion throughout the course of the next 21 weeks.
Position Ladder
A Position Ladder will be placed on each team page, which will provide an up-to-date visualization of the current A-League standings. However, problems may occur when Position Ladders aren't updated with the new statistics that don't involve matches of the team whose page the Position Ladder resides on. To remedy this, a base Position Ladder will be created, which will be located at {{2006-07 A-League Position Ladder}} (link). Please update this as soon as possible after the match has ended, as this will keep the Wikipedia community informed.

A few notes regarding the base Position Ladder:-

  • Please do not substitute the Position Ladder template on the team pages, as it won’t get automatically updated if you do.
  • Please only update the Position Ladder at the end of a match, and if there is any large dispute about the result, do not add it, but instead wait for an official report by the A-League confirming the result.
  • When updating, make sure to adjust all of the below fields:-
    • The played field – add one (eg. 13→14 etc.)
    • Either the win, loss or draw field, depending on the result for that team.
    • The points field – either add 3 points (win), 1 point (draw) or leave the same (loss)
    • The for and the against section
    • Make sure you repeat this process for both teams – not just the team you follow!
Summary Tables
Each team page will have a Summary Table added to it, which will provide an at-a-glance look at the results of the team throughout the season. We ask that, at every chance you get, you fill in the results of these Summary Tables – it only takes a few seconds, but it will help keep the uninformed "in the loop" – it is an encyclopedia we’re writing, after all.

As with the Position Ladders, a few notes about the Summary Tables:-

  • Please place the winner in bold text (using '''winning team''').
  • With the crowd figures, please only place a comma if the attendance is over 10,000 people (eg. use 8648 instead of 8,468 and 11,482 instead of 11482).

A-League Newsletter II, 2006

WikiProject A-League Newsletter
Issue II – September 2006
Current Player project status
10% complete
A-League News

Project News
  • The Player project has been moved, overhauled and refined. It now is not limited to the 2005-06 player list. However, only 10% of articles are considered "complete", and hopefully we can get this figure to approach 100% by the end of the season.
  • Major changes to the layout of the 2006-07 A-League season page have taken place recently, and an infobox created. A table for attendances, as well as top scorer etc. are now in place. All users are encouraged to update the scores for completed matches as they come in.
  • Recently, Perth Glory F.C. was moved to Perth Glory FC after no objections were raised at the Wikiproject talk page. All links to the old page (including various templates) were changed.
  • The project requires pictures of games and stadiums to help improve articles. Any pictures are much appreciated.
  • The A-League Portal has been set up. Feel free to update the scores, and make sure you check out the selected article and picture each fortnight.
  • The football (soccer) barnstar has recently became the official award of the Wikiproject. Feel free to hand it out to anyone you see making excellent contributions to all things A-League related.

Thanks for your comments on my talk page - much appreciated. I was just getting hacked off at spending time on articles, finding out various facts etc, only for some one else to come along and change things around without contributing anything, declaring "style" as an edit summary. These people, typified today by "Attilios", don't add anything constructive but just take what you've done, something they're not capable of doing themselves, and decide it's not the way they like it. I'll probably be back before long, I don't have much of a life so I'll be bored soon! Cheers. Bretonbanquet 13:54, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sydney FC article, player stats, "All competitions"

[edit]

I think it was your edits that changed the stats on the Sydney FC article. Do you have any "All competitions" data (top five, maybe, or full stats for Apps/Goals) and, if you do, would it be possible to put it up somewhere? While the A-League stats will be easy enough to pull up (official site), I imagine that in a year or two time it might be very tedious to hunt down stats or match records to update, for example, the club's highest goalscorer in all competitions (pre-season, CWC quals etc). Cheers, [dM] 05:06, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your books on WikiProject Cricket/Library

[edit]

Hello, Albinomonkey. I was browsing through the list of books that you own on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Cricket/Library and wondered if you might have a look through them for information on Spofforth and the 1882 Test Match for me. Thanks, Robertson-Glasgow 12:17, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem I'll have a look through them tomorrow morning - is it his work in that specific match you are solely interested in, or Spofforth in general? – AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 13:04, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, just that match, please. Thanks a ton. Robertson-Glasgow 16:57, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot for helping me out with that, Albinomonkey; it really is much appreciated, and I will put it to good use in the relevant Wikipedia articles. I would be extra-grateful, though, if you would see if that C.P. Moody fellow is quoted any further in Australian Cricket. What you reproduced there was the first from him about this match that I have ever read, and I would be interested to see if he has more to say.
Also, would you mind seeing if there is any information on the following two points of interest in that match? Firstly, do your sources have anything to say about C.T. Studd's supposed nervousness in waiting to go out to bat - if A.N. Hornby is quoted on that, it would be quite brilliant - and, secondly, what about something on the controversial run-out of Sammy Jones by W.G. Grace (of special interest being umpire Thoms's rejoinder to the Doctor's appeal)? A million thanks once again, Albinomonkey. Robertson-Glasgow 17:03, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I really cannot thank you enough, and I am more than willing to return the favour if needs be; my cricket library is almost 700-books strong, so I should think that, if there is anything about which you would like to know, I would be able to help you. Nevertheless, many thanks once again, sir. Robertson-Glasgow 04:48, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, seeing you are interested in football this is an invitation to contribute to this discussion to clarify certain issues about football player notability. Help

[edit]

Dear ASlbinomonkey. A while ago you helped me caterogise a few catergories that were being listed in Australia as "football" when they should have been called "football (soccer)" I really did appreciate your help, and hate to ask you this, but I need your help again. Some more people have been breaking the rule and opened more of them as simply "football". Can you help me caterogise them properly again? The catergories are: Category:Australian football biography stubs and Category:Australia international footballers. Again, I thank you for all your help before. Hello, Albinomonkey. An automated process has found and will an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that is in your userspace. The image (Image:Lokocovefclogo.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Albinomonkey/Lokomotiv Cove FC. This image or media will be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. This does not necessarily mean that the image is being deleted, or that the image is being removed from other pages. It is only being removed from the page mentioned above. All mainspace instances of this image will not be affected Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. Orphaned non-free image (Image:West Indies Cricket Board Flag.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:West Indies Cricket Board Flag.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 00:42, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:SydneyFClogo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:SydneyFClogo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 17:28, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. Proposed deletion of Roy Bell (football)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Roy Bell (football), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.--ClubOranjeTalk 07:52, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to interview you for our blog

[edit]

I am writing for a blog called Let's Get Tight (letsgettight.com) and am embarking on a project to interview Wikipedians regarding the interesting articles they maintain, etc... Our readers are really engaged in the 'tightest' (read: best, most cool, most interesting) things out there and I think this would be a subject that would be a lot of fun while also still being really relevant and interesting. It would be a short, 3-5 question interview via email. If you'd be open for this, I'd really love to chat with you a little bit about contributing to Wikipedia, etc... Please get in touch via email -- brendanx@gmail.com -- much appreciated and please keep up the great work! :)

Vote for Football as the Australian collaboration

[edit]

Hi -- I recently nominated Wikipedia:WikiProject Football (soccer) in Australia/To-do for the Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight.

This WikiProject has been inactive for a long time and with the World Cup coming up, it would be good for football (soccer) articles to be in depth and comprehensive in Australia.

If you would like to support it, click here for the project page to cast your vote

Thanks! Australian Matt (talk) 02:39, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NowCommons: File:NRL Rugby League Field.png

[edit]

File:NRL Rugby League Field.png is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:NRL Rugby League Field.png. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:NRL Rugby League Field.png]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 23:52, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Albinomonkey! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 6 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Matthew Head - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Notification of automated file description generation

[edit]

Your upload of File:Brandshatch.png or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
