Death

[edit]
I was awakened today with several phone calls from cast members and Doug to pass along the terrible news that this morning, Richard Biggs passed away.
We're still gathering information, so take none of this as firm word, but what seems to have happened, happened quickly. He woke up, got up out of bed...and went down. The paramedics who showed up suggested it was either an aneurysm or a massive stroke.
His family members have been informed, and all of the the cast have, as far as we can determine, also been informed.
This is a terrible loss for all of us. Richard was a consummate professional but more than that he was an honorable, stand-up guy. If he gave you his word on something, you never had to wonder about it afterward. He was always helpful and supportive of all the cast, even those who only came in for one episode, always with a ready smile and determined to do whatever it took to make the scene work. He was, quite simply, a terrific guy, and everyone here is just devastated at the news.
More word as this develops. We may try to have some kind of fund raiser to help give whatever assistance may be helpful for his kids.
We all miss him terribly.

  • To this point, I haven't found any obituaries on Google News for Richard Biggs. While I don't think this is necessarily a false report, I'm puzzled by the lack of confirmation. I did find a reference to the letter above, but the source was the IMDb message board - not necessarily a reliable reference. Has anyone seen a reliable obit for him? Thanks. --Brian Rock 02:30, May 24, 2004 (UTC)

This came from JMS' own news website http://www.jmsnews.com/msg.aspx?id=1-17099 just in case anyone's wondering... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.173.73.172 (talk) 20:59, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • Then again, I didn't find an obit for recently deceased Arnold Moore on Google News either. Maybe it's not optimized for obits. --Brian Rock 02:40, May 24, 2004 (UTC)
I was struck by the same thought, and haven't found any "major" new source to confirm it yet, but I suspect that this is because he was a "sci-fi" niche actor. I tend to believe it, though, because it's appeared on "http://www.jmsnews.com", as well as on some fan sites ([1]). Actual news reports may (eventually) show up as "Rick Biggs", so searching for "Richard Biggs" won't find it. - Nunh-huh 02:42, 24 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
We're thinking the same way. I'm hoping it is wrong. I'm not a super fan of Babylon 5, but I never like to see anyone younger than me die. Sadly, strokes and aneurysms can happen to people his age. I did some looking for Rick Biggs, too and didn't find anything. Maybe we'll be lucky and it will have been a hoax. But I suspect it isn't. --Brian Rock 02:50, May 24, 2004 (UTC)

His official website has a notice: [2] Davodd 05:11, May 25, 2004 (UTC)

Year of birth

[edit]

There seems to be a discrepancy in birth date: IMDB says he was born 1961, but his website says 1960. —Mulad 19:37, May 26, 2004 (UTC)

The Soap Digest obit also said he died at 44. I'm going to change it. Mike H 16:46, Aug 11, 2004 (UTC)

Cause of death?

[edit]

It seems odd that the entry does not mention the cause of death. How did he die? --75.85.23.0 (talk) 15:27, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Likeness used in video game

[edit]

I just watched a behind-the-scenes video about the 2000 video game Perfect Dark wherein one of the people who worked on the game said Biggs was a friend of hers and allowed his likeness to be used for the United States President in the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye22UAfs6-0 at about 06:35. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C5D:6200:463:E44C:D6ED:F077:B25D (talk) 04:32, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
