WABI vs WBAI

[edit]

Is that really WABI, not WBAI? -- Jmabel 06:14, 13 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. Fixed. ElBenevolente 06:17, 13 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

I can't believe it. It was just yesterday that I even registered www.jfwiki.org and already some kind soul has linked to it. How cool is wikipedia?!!! 4.16.122.172 01:08, 6 Feb 2005 (UTC) (spblat)

Article

[edit]

Joe Frank is worthy of a much better article! I hope to be able to contribute something to that in the future. Stephenjh 19:28, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Even if one doesn't much care for the actual body of work, it is unique enough, and long-running enough, that it deserves a more thorough discussion of how the shows stand apart from the usual fare.

Perhaps it would make sense to list the shows, or the more popular ones, along the right side of the page, as is done with actors or musicians? That would allow wiki readers to link directly to the shows, and produce separate articles for them. Just a thought. C d h 03:32, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarized

[edit]

Almost all of this text is copied verbatim from Frank's bio page on his official website: http://www.joefrank.com/joebio.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.146.10.50 (talkcontribs) 02:21, May 27, 2007

Wikipedia's copyright violation policy is quite clear. I'll do what I can to remove the offending text. --GargoyleMT 13:46, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think this is a false alarm. See Wikipedia's revision as of December 2, 2004, and compare it to the Internet Archive's version as of November 19, 2004 or December 7, 2004. The point where JoeFrank.com changed over to be like the article is March 6, 2005. I'll post on the copyright problems board, and see if others reach the same conclusion as I do. --GargoyleMT 13:58, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. --Alvestrand 18:21, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Me too. I examined this at the time and came to that conclusion. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 22:28, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking into it, gentlemen. --GargoyleMT 21:57, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Major Overhaul

[edit]

I just did a major overhaul to the page. Did as much as I could - feel free to jump in. Things I think the page could use:

  • It would be great if we could get some kind of open licensed image if anyone has anything.
  • Confirmed birthdate - I have an estimated year right now.
  • More Frank inspired artists if you know of any
  • Pretty sure I got all the awards organized correctly?

Anyway, it's much more complete than before! --Dronthego (talk) 06:12, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Frank's date of birth

[edit]

The text has 1938 twice, the 'vitals' box has 1942.

The 'LA Weekly's 1997 article, 'Joe Frank is off the air', http://www.joefrank.com/newsarch/LAW97.html , says his family emigrated with him in 1939, as does 'Salon's article of 2000 March 7 by Susan Emerling, http://www.joefrank.com/newsarch/salon00.html .

Whatever you decide, you should at least have the same year everywhere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RussellBell (talkcontribs) 05:18, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The government of Strasbourg sent me an 'extrait' of Joseph Langermann's (Joe's name at birth) 'acte de naissance' (birth certificate), all a non-relative can request. It says he was born at 9:30 AM 1938 August 19. RussellBell (talk) 23:06, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No Joe Frank Discography on WP?

[edit]

Would a comprehensive listing of all his monologues be appropriate? It's all on his web page joefrank.com and on the Joe Frank FAQ, but oddly, it's not really organized in any easily readable format. I would think any poet or writer would have his works listed, and so the same would be appropriate for Frank. --Petzl (talk) 02:51, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Updating References section to new Peabody Awards homepage

[edit]

I noticed the link under References which was meant to take the user to a search page for past Peabody Award winners was outdated. I believe this is the current home for such searches http://peabodyawards.com/past-winners/peabody-search/ but I couldn't figure out how to edit the reference in the Article page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.98.252.35 (talk) 04:49, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Joe's kidney donor

[edit]

I find no evidence of second cousins in the US. 3 first cousins got out of Europe before the war, courtesy of Joe's father, and a fourth was born in the US. I suspect it was really a first cousin, once removed (people make this mistake), a child of one of his first cousins. A second cousin would have been of a similar age, old to be a donor.RussellBell (talk) 20:48, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Frank and WNYC

[edit]

For many years WNYC-AM (810am) broadcast Joe's work every Sunday night from 11-midnight. This stopped a couple of years before he died.

Please, someone, update the wiki page. karmester 23:45, 24 November 2023 (UTC) karmester 23:45, 24 November 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Karmester (talkcontribs)
